Noah’s Ark

Noah’s Ark

In December 2024, Troostwijk Auctions sold one of the most unusual lots in its history: a full-scale replica of Noah’s Ark. At 122 metres long, 29 metres wide, and 27 metres high, the Ark was more than a ship. It was the realization of a dream.

The Ark was built by Dutch carpenter Johan Huibers, inspired by a vivid dream of a flood. Constructed to biblical dimensions, it became a museum filled with giant polyester animals, two cinemas, a restaurant, and even apartments. Since opening in 2012, millions visited for school trips, weddings, and events.

By 2024, the Huibers family decided the Ark needed a new chapter. They turned to Troostwijk Auctions for its international reach. “This vessel deserves to inspire people worldwide,” said Johan’s daughter, Deborah

The Ark was meticulously maintained and compliant with building codes, making it suitable as a museum, event space, or even private residence. When the auction closed on 18 December, bidders from across the globe recognized the symbolic weight of owning such a structure.

For Troostwijk Auctions, the sale celebrated its role in connecting visionaries with opportunity. The Ark’s auction proved that even dreams, once built from wood and vision, can find a new life through the hammer.
