Description
Indian 1000cc 8 valve racer with a super patina and in running condition... who dares.
The normal model of indian was an overhead valve. For racing, Indian made a 4 (2 valves per cylinder) or 8 (4 valves per cylinder) racer. These were never sold even though they were in the catalogue but were only loaned to the factory racers and to the most promising riders. Rarely do these motorcycles come up for sale. These are the motorcycles that reached speeds of over 200km/h on the wooden murderdromes and this in 1914! These motorcycles were pushed into motion on the bowl tracks or pulled in motion by another motorcycle with the help of a cord. Then they did a tour behind the pace car and had a flying start for the race (here is a nice video of this : https://youtu.be/QPZY-MUx8qk ). These motorcycles had no brakes. This was too dangerous to drive because one could hinder a rider behind by braking suddenly. These motorcycles also did not have a throttle cable because they were usually driven at full throttle (operated by a lever on the carburettor) and speed was controlled with the pre-ignition and with the killswitch on the handlebars.
